This book is the second volume of a series entitled "The Old Stone Age of the World" and is devoted to the Paleolithic of the Near and Middle East, i.e. Syria, the Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. The Paleolithic of these countries has many common features with the Paleolithic of the Caucasus, Central Asia and some other regions of the Soviet Union, and is therefore important for an understanding of the ancient history of the USSR.
This book presents for the first time in Soviet archaelogical literature a summary of all data concerning Paleolithic caves and sites, as well as concerning the Paleolithical cultures, and offers an original explanation thereof. The work enables the reader to form a clear idea of the principal Old Stone Age sites and cultures in the Near and Middle East. The volume is intended for the use of specialists such as archaologists, historians, anthropologists and geologists.
