When TV journalist Walter J. Burns visits Yugoslavia with a film crew he is planning a very special programme. As part of a series of real life war dramas he will tell the story of his own nephew Lt Col David Knox-Hamilton, M.C., D.S.O., killed in action in 1943 and buried in a small Serbian mountain village.
The dead hero with his two sergeants were part of the wartime S.A.S. They had a crucial mission and to this end were parachuted into Serbia to join the local resistance movement, led by the proud, vibrant Nevenka.
As the story unfolds it reveals a startling documentary of bravery and suffering, deep patriotism and deeper emotions; and most important was the deep bond which was forged with the fierce and loyal partisans.
But a dark mistery surrounds the young Colonel's tragic death. The truth when it finally emerges is something Burns is reluctant to put on film...
